Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Ending Explained

In the movie, Miles learns some shocking revelations. He discovers that the radioactive spider that bit him, known as the number 42 spider, came from another universe and was meant to be that world's Spider-Man's origin. This makes Miles an anomaly who was never supposed to become Spider-Man. The spider Society didn't want him as a member because of this. Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O'Hara, explains that messing with the canon causes chaos in the universe, and Miles becoming Spider-Man led to the death of Spider-Man in Miguel's world. Additionally, the canon dictates that every Spider-Man must endure a specific tragedy, and Miles' father is destined to die once he becomes a police captain. Miles doesn't believe all of this and refuses to let his father die. He escapes the spider Society and accidentally ends up in the wrong universe, where his uncle Aaron is alive. This universe's Miles went down a dark path and became a criminal instead of a hero. Miles asks his variant to help save his father, but Prowler Miles doesn't seem to care. Meanwhile, the villainous Spot has gathered enough Dark Matter spots from other universes to enact his revenge on Miles. The Spot transports himself to Earth 1610, outside of Miles' home where his parents reside. Miles sees a vision of his father being killed, and the Spot appears to be the cause of the collapse that leads to his death. Spider-Gwen goes to Miles' home but realizes he's not there. She gathers a group of Spider heroes to help him, going against Spider-Man 2099 and the spider Society.

Now, let's address the questions raised by the ending

1. Can Miles save his dad?

This is the big cliffhanger of the movie. Miles is an anomaly, so the rules of the canon may not apply to him. He might be able to break the cycle of tragedy and create a new future where Spider heroes don't suffer tragic losses. If he saves his father, it could have catastrophic consequences for his universe and the Spider-Verse.

2. What will happen to Spider-Gwen's universe?

Gwen revealed her secret identity to her father and caused him to quit his job. If the movie's logic about canon holds, this means he's no longer fated to die. The question is whether this change will destabilize Gwen's dimension or if she found a way to maintain stability without her father dying.

3. Will Miles Morales end up with Gwen Stacy?

Miles and Gwen have a strong bond, and their relationship is an important aspect. While Miles may have feelings for Gwen, it's unclear if they will end up together due to the risks and tragedies often associated with Spider-Man stories.

4. Will Tom Holland's Spider-Man appear in Beyond the Spider-Verse Movie?

Tom Holland's Spider-Man was absent from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, but there are hints that a live-action Miles Morales movie is being developed. It's possible that Miles will step into the realm of live action, and Tom Holland's Spider-Man could have a cameo or play a significant role in Beyond the Spider-Verse. These questions leave fans speculating about what will happen in the next installment and how the characters' stories will unfold.
